Excitement has been building for The Open Championship which begins on the 18th July and Gail has appeared on BBC Five Live and talkSPORT to share her views about the prestigious tournament. The Open is one of the biggest events in the world of golf and attracts the best players from around the globe.
The championship will be held at Muirfield which has been criticised for not allowing female members. Gail believes that the tournament should be hosted elsewhere and described the course as being ‘stuck in the 1950s’. She believes that the PGA is ‘not showing the sport has moved on despite the fact it has recently become an Olympic event.’
The policy not to permit female members to join the club has generated a lot of discussion and many believe that golf needs to catch up with other sports when it comes to equality.
