Gail set for timed mountain climb to raise funds for SportsAid charity
She has already won Eternal Glory and helped Team Derby to the 2014/15 National Badminton League title, but Gail is already pursuing her next challenge – and it is set to be her biggest one ever.
Gail has decided to climb Morocco’s Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa, in aid of charity. But she’s not merely satisfied with reaching the summit – she has set herself the goal of going up the mountain and back down again in 18 hours!
The mission to climb the 13,671ft peak in the Atlas Mountains will be raising funds for SportsAid, a charity which gives grants to young athletes who don’t get any funding, with the aim of keeping them in the sport.
On her JustGiving page, Gail – who herself benefited from a SportsAid grant when she was young – said: “Without this funding, they may have to give up the sport and the thing they love the most.
“With it being Olympic year as well, it is important to highlight what sport does for young people, not only to achieve dreams and aspirations, but also the attributes for later life and bringing communities together.”
Gail’s expedition will take place between 29 April and 2 May 2016.
